Pedestal Mounted Stinger System, ATILGAN, is a fully automated VSHORAD firing unit using Stinger missiles. The main mission of ATILGAN, is the low level air defence of stationary and moving forward troops, convoys and tactical bases in the battlefield.
The gunner is seated in the electrically powered turret with a highly accurate stabilization, which enables on-the-move surveillance, detection, tracking and firing capabilities.
Besides autonomous operation the system architecture of ATILGAN provides coordinated operation with C3I System and other air defence assets. In remote control mode, the Optical Target Designator is used for the system to be directed automatically towards the coordinates that the commander is tracking.
The Fire Control Computer has a flexible software/hardware infrastructure in order to meet the future mission requirements that may evolve. This flexible infrastructure of ATILGAN enables the integration of different SHORAD/VSHORAD missiles besides Stinger. Additionally, it is possible to adapt the system for different platforms according to different mission requirements.
ATILGAN is based on an armoured/tracked personnel carrier (M113) and it is operated with a three-man crew; the driver, the gunner and the commander.
ATILGAN has been subjected to extensive tests and performance evaluations in consideration of possible battlefield conditions. ATILGAN has performed direct hits in all stationary and shoot-on-the-move live firings to stationary and mobile targets.
