ASELSAN designs and manufactures technologically critical microwave modules and components in dedicated special areas. The design and production activities consist of high performance transmitter and transmitter/receiver modules, front-end modules, frequency converters, power amplifier modules, digital frequency discriminators (DFD), logarithmic video amplifiers (DLVA), filters, monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC), thin-film based components for the mission critical radar, electronic warfare (EW), intelligence, and satellite systems. Microwave module production capability is extended and reinforced with thin film and microwave multilayer packaging technologies.
The microwave module/component design and manufacturing activities are held in more than 2000 m2 clean room facilities which makes ASELSAN one of the few centers in the world.
ASELSAN develops and continually optimizes transmit (T) modules for EW applications and transmit/receive (T/R) modules for radar applications according to the cutting edge specifications of radar and electronic warfare systems abiding the military standards. T-modules are used to transmit RF/microwave signals at a certain power level, while R-modules are used to deliver RF/microwave signals received from an outer source to the subunits of the system after pre amplifying/filtering stages.
ASELSAN has an in-house design facility for Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) based power amplifiers. These high-power and high-efficiency modules have been deployed to the field in many civil, defence and space applications.
Narrow and wideband frequency converters are among the basic building blocks of radar and electronic warfare systems. These modules are designed to achieve the down or up-conversion of the frequency of interest. Frequency converters can either be used for frequency conversion or selecting specific frequency range out of a wide frequency band. In frequency conversion designs, undesired signals growing out of nonlinear effects can be suppressed by careful frequency planning and related filtering operations. Frequency conversion is used to convert high frequency RF signals into digitally more instantiable lower frequencies or digitally lower frequencies into high frequency RF signals.
Front-end modules are especially employed behind the antenna in wideband phased array antenna systems. They are designed achieve low noise and high level signal immunity. In some cases, these front-end units enable to receive signals in wide amplitude ranges by means of tunable dynamic range control.
Filters provides frequency selectivity by rejecting the unwanted broadcasting or spurious signals. Filters can be designed as components and units using simple and sophisticated methods including the types such as high pass, low pass, band pass, and notch filters.
MMICs are considered as one of the most critical active components of a compact microwave module since they monolithically integrates many functions on a certain substrate of choice. ASELSAN has an in-house MMIC design center based on Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) technologies. Some applications of MMICs designed at ASELSAN consist of high power amplifier, low-noise amplifiers, phase shifters, switches, and power detectors.
Digital Frequency Discriminators
Digital Frequency Discriminator module measures instantaneous frequency of pulsed and CW signals in wide input power range and wide frequency bands. In this way, measured frequency can be expressed digitally.
